I wonder if the people who are missing these important parts of the story are the ones too busy finding a reason to hate Kate (because admitting they hate her just because she's fat wouldn't be PC) or the ones too busy trying to be so clever as to find hidden "problems" with the plot (like what Pittsburgh would look like exactly at any point in time).[/quote]

NP - I don't hate Kate or blame her for Jack's death, but she does irritate me sometimes.  I think she is mean to Toby - very demanding and seems to take him for granted.  I mean, after that big health scare he had and after time and time again that he is patient, loving and forgiving of her - she seems very self centered in the relationship.  [/quote]

When people hate themselves, they are usually very mean to other people, especially people who love them. Kevin and Randall are really the only ones exempt from this, in regards to Kate. Kate hates herself a great deal - for not being as pretty and thin as her mother, but most of all for causing her father's death (in her mind). So she sabotages anything good that happens to her and can be mean to those that car about her, because deep down she doesn't think she is worth much.[/quote]
