Canadian here. In Ottawa right now, but just to visit family. It is serious and unfortunate. This illegal occupation has affected many private citizens and businesses in the area. I feel for them.
But, you didn't fear for them during the almost 2-year lockdown? When they were forced to close their small businesses? Somehow 3 weeks of a few shops downtown being closed is what is unacceptable to you? But, being closed for two years by the gov is ok?
What do you mean? Who did I fear? Businesses weren't closed for two years, though they were restricted. These businesses closed due to human aggression, and noise levels.
Really? They were not closed to the public from December 2020 till June 2021? With a couple of weeks of being open in March 2021? That is news to me! Cause, here in Ottawa I very clearly remember not being able to go to even Value Village for months.
But they weren't closed because of large trucks blocking the roads or their owners being aggressive.
They were not aggressive. Explain to me the difference between being closed bcs the government forced you to be closed and choosing to close for a week BCS some trucks parked there? I fail to comprehend how is it less bad to be closed for months and months due to government-mandated than being closed for a week by your choice?
Businesses have been opening. Restrictions are being lifted. Yet these protesters were honking their horns all day and nigh, setting off fireworks, and even assaulted some people at a homeless shelter. Now, maybe honking horns doesn't seem bad, but those horns are loud...really loud. One restaurant owner said the few patrons she had, you could not hear orders and have a conversation. They closed because no one visited their businesses because of the protestors that were there. They could not afford to stay open. And this at a time when the government was lifting restrictions. As for the government lockdowns, yes, it was bad for businesses. I cannot speak to Value Village, but you could still help out local places when possible. I made sure to spend dollars at local places for takeout and curb side pickup, though this could not be done for all types of businesses. It wasn't a total lockdown for everything at all times.
