I mean... you all realize these aren't real people, right? The plan was to kill him off. Carrie could have called 911 and done CPR until the cows came home and the man would still be dead, because the writers wanted him dead. He could have stepped into an empty elevator shaft instead but the heart attack would provide a bit more drama. It's a TV show, not a PSA.
Obviously the plan was to kill him off. They could have done it far more believably and without making the main character look like a total nimrod if she had just come home to find him dead, or if the paramedics couldn’t save him. Way more effing beliveable.
Carrie IS a total nimrod.
One of the weirdest parts of SATC, and now AJLT, is that SJP is an executive producers, right? Doesn't that mean she has a say in how her character is written? Because Carrie groping Aidan and wailing "You have to forgive me!" Carrie feeling entitled to having someone else make the down payment on her apartment, Carrie not calling 911 -- that's not a realistic portrayal of someone with good and bad traits. That's a repellent nimrod.
+1 Yes, SJP is doing this to herself. And has been since season 3 I think.
You could tell SJP's influence because CB became more and more of a simpering, cutsey idiot. There was more cutting humour in the initial shows. CB became more self centered, more and more like a teenager and less likeable. Does SJP control the writing now because who is writing this drivel? They have to know it is drivel.
+1 She has total creative control plus Michael Patrick King is her disciple and does whatever she wants. I remember reading an interview with her way back about the infamous episode with Charlotte’s ring and the downpayment, and SJP so clearly did not get why everyone was so angry about Carrie’s behavior in that one.
I would love to read that interview, PP, if you can find it!
I looked and I can’t! But this piece about Carrie in the reboot In particular is interesting; it suggests thinking of her as an antihero ala Tony Soprano. https://www.vox.com/2021/12/9/22825492/carrie-bradshaw-satc-main-character-syndrome
