14:55 here, I thought of some more... -how he claims he's going to be "in trouble" with the higher-ups for doing things that he thinks the audience will like. Like, ooh, I'm going to get yelled at for playing this song, or saying this (faux controversial) thing, but I don't care! Then referencing it often, claiming that he "almost got fired." His show is crazy popular, we know and he knows that he's not getting fired. -he's really not that nice. I watched a few of the videos he's posted of himself on FB or wherever, mostly because I wanted to match the face and the voice talking at the same time, and he's kind of a jerk. Once he was whining about construction in his building, and all the workers were "idiots," etc., for doing their jobs. I'm sure there's an audience for him, and he's not unique , but I just cannot stand him. DC is their largest market, but I think it's also very different from their other markets. I honestly don't know anyone that really, really likes his show. The country just-play-music people I know prefer WPOC or WFRE, and the "I sort of like country but also a good morning show" just switched to a different morning zoo.
At least WFRE play country artists that most people haven't heard of in an attempt to get those artists exposure. WMZQ is repetitious and plays the big names only.
Whaaaaaaaaaat? Haven't you heard Bobby pat himself on the back nonstop for promoting "unknowns," and how he gets in trouble for doing that? Except, wait, those artists are the same ones that are featured as "Highway finds" on Sirius, and are clearly on I Heart Radio's list for up-and-comers. Really, though, you'd think Chris Jansen owes his entire one-song career to Bobby Bones liking "But Me a Boat" so much. Seriously, though, all the non-satellite stations play the same country artists, because they're all owned by I Heart Radio and have the same playlists. Across the nation, they are all the same.
Bobby has been advocate of female country artists, which is a good thing (google Saladgate). The problem is, neither he or the powers that be on "The Highway" pay attention to the charts they should be (there is more than Billboard and Mediabase). The Highway is repetitive as hell too and have been called out on it on their Facebook page. I listened to The Highway's top 30 countdown yesterday, and there were 5 female artists on the countdown and you could probably name 4 of them without much effort. The survey that sometimes their listeners get on their e-mail is a pre-determined list, and there is zero room for adding songs for consideration. Nashville is not as smart as they think they are. Just two weeks ago, Maren Morris was in Entertainment Weekly, and she had a huge hit earlier this year titled "My Church" and has a song called "80's Mercedes" in the regular rotation in major markets.
