We are a second-year family at Two Rivers @ Young. We were really surprised to get the email from the school telling us not to use the lot across the street (the Springarn lot) as Two Rivers families had been using that all last year with no hassle. I get that it is not Two Rivers' fault (it isn't their land, and they can't control what the city says), but it was surprising given that we used it for so long with no complaint. I am frustrated that they haven't opened up the lot behind Two Rivers (there is a large lot of land with a small playground that no one uses) to provide some relief. They opened it once or twice last year, but otherwise it remains locked, and they haven't explained why it can't be leveraged. I'm glad to hear that others aren't having trouble parking on 26th and hope that continues as the year goes on, although I'm not optimistic. Last year, I found that finding parking on 26th was often very difficult during drop-off. You can only park on one side of the street, and it appeared that there were a lot of people who were working at the Car Barn lot construction who would park on 26th (and who would arrive way before school started). Between them and the families arriving at Two Rivers (and also Browne) parking on 26th was crazy. TBH we love Young with respect to most other things but I have really been unhappy with how they have managed the parking situation. It seems that there are things they could do to mitigate some hassle (the lot behind school, or like PP said creating an entry onto school parking directly from 26th) and they haven't. Also, I don't see what "recommendations" the "parent committee" made. Everything in that email (aside from not parking in the Springarn lot) is the exact same as what we were told last year in terms of parking on 26th, walking up H, crossing where there are guards, not stopping on H, etc. It doesn't appear to me that the committee actually made any new recommendations to manage the situation -- they simply reiterated precisely what we were told by the school admin last year.
I completely agree with you!!! 2nd year also - Task force did not come up with anything useful I have always parked at Springarn, I come from the other side so busting a U-turn to park on 26th street to park in the midst of all the traffic on that street is not an option. They need to open the 2R lot or allow parking on both sides, or continue to ignore the fact that we have no choice but to park where we can. They've had over 2 years to figure out a solution. I did not appreciate the email.
Why can't you take another route?
Please, enlighten me. What other route do you suggest?
