I saw a fairly quick response to my DC's anxiety once we found the right therapist (our 3rd try). I saw her developing concrete strategies (and using them) by 2 or 3 weeks in. (We also started anxiety meds a bit before that because her baseline anxiety was so high that she couldn't have accessed any of those strategies until we got some relief there - that may have been part of the problem with the first two therapists). CBT should be very practical and with concrete goals each week. (DD was going through school refusal issues, so early goals were making it through 2 hours of school by sitting in the counselor's office, then being in the classroom for morning meeting before going to the counselors office, then making it through one class, etc. Each week, we assessed if the goal was met and either made a harder goal, or re-worked the previous goal.) As far as executive function, I don't know that that is something that will necessarily improve with CBT, but your child should learn strategies to work around a deficit of executive function. (My anxious kid and my EF kid are different so we haven't used one person for both.) My EF DC goes to the school counseling office for help breaking down assignments, organizing projects and notebooks, keeping a calendar and blocking off time for assignments and studying and basically making things much more visual. That is a work in progress. The strategies are in place but the motivation to use them is not always strong enough.
