No, they don't. They cannot start tryouts for winter and spring sports until the previous season has ended so there is an extremely short period between those seasons. Like a week.[/quote]

I'm curious, how does a student come to off-season practices if they weren't on the team the previous year? Whether they are a freshman or just didn't play the sport previously, can they just show up and participate?[/quote]

They need paper work including a physical performed by a Dr and at some schools they need to be submitted in advance..but if they have that then yes they can just participate in tryouts.
