Our roof deck of our condo building, to me, seems really unsafe our the condo board is a bunch of total jerks. So if you walk out onto the room there is a fenced in area with chairs and a pool. This fence gate leads out to a gravel surface all the way to the edge of the building with not barrier wall, just a drop down to the group 9 floors. The gate is always left wide open. I have a two year old and this scares the crap out of me. Of course I watch him like a hawk but it only takes a second for him to bolt. When I am on the roof I out up a bike lock on the door to close it tight and remove it when we leave. The building manager and board president told me that I can't do this anymore and that the fence must remain open. The deck is open 25/7. Lots of people drink at night up there. I could see this being a major liability considering anyone can just walk up and off the roof. Are their laws requiring a wall or fence around the roof top or are residents always permitted to access these areas? Sorry if this is confusing.
