Keep an eye on how she behaves with the kid, OP, and keep a file. My DH was majorly fucked up by his mother with unmedicated BPD. It's harsh as hell, but his father should have left her and taken the kid until she got treatment. But, assuming you want to reassure her and make things work out, remind her that, as planned, you'll be back on X date, that you love her very much and suggest she speak with her therapist/psychiatrist.
