We're torn between the idea that our DS would benefit from going to a really good elementary school because it would could set him up for a lifetime of enjoying learning and having a curious mind vs. the idea that our DS would benefit from a really good high school in preparation for college and the future.  It seems like most people focus more on private for high school -- is that what seems to be the most important?  Is there value to doing the opposite?

We do not have our hearts set on our DS going to an ivy-league school or anything like that, so the need to go to a prestigious high school for that reason is not essential (although we'd obviously love for him to get into a good college that is a good fit for him and his interests).[/quote]
