I think Ocean City is easiest for a day trip. You can get there in close to 2 hours if you leave EARLY. Like get in the car driving no later than 7am. You need to get across the Bay Bridge. Then aim for North OC (don't take Rt 50 all the way in to South) and there's plenty of parking around, lots of places to eat, and you miss the madness of the boardwalk. But you must leave early in the morning on a weekend day. Otherwise you may as well stay home. We usually drive back while it's still light out (about 6pm) since it's a long day and you're tired.
We go to the DE beaches every year. You cannot get to OC within 2 hours. It's 2 hours to the DE border or Cambridge depending on which way you go. If you don't pay attention to the speed limits 2 hours may be doable, but there's still a lot of one lane roads.
I agree; it definitely takes longer than 2 hours. I feel like a lot of the travel time estimates given on DCUM are either based on google maps with no traffic or stops, and/or posted by people with lead feet.
Yes, we live in Annapolis and go to Rehoboth often, and 2 hours is the BEST we can do, with no stops or any slow downs. Coming from DC or NOVA, you would definitely have to add 30-60 minutes to that.
