My daughter came home asking questions. She is in first grade and I work in a school. She wanted to know if my school had it too. We cleared up her misunderstandings and answered the questions she had in an honest and kid appropriate way. After 9/11 and the sniper in 2002, mcps students are used to various types of drills so none of this should have been new to any of the kids. The main difference was the length of time that this lasted (drills are usually less than 5-10 minutes).
Your first grade daughter wasn't even born before 9/11 and sniper. Just because the school may be used to it, doesn't mean a 6yr old is. Not only was the drill longer but they all knew it was real.
