I just took the harness out of my 6yo's Graco 3-in-1 Nautilus, so now he will sit in the high-back booster with the seatbelt. He is 50 lbs. and 50 in. I wish I could do the booster with the high-back, but my gut is telling me to keep the back for extra support. That said, does anyone know of any research out there that says the high-back really makes a big difference when using the seatbelt (instead of harness)? Or is it really no different than having them just sit in the booster?
I personally preferred high back, however both my children liked to sleep in the car. So, the wings help to hold their head in place. fwiw My kids are eight and 11 and both in backless Boosters in my car and nothing in DH's car. I viewed going from a harnessed to a non-harnessed seat as a step down in security and therefore tried to wait as long as I could to move them each time. One child started using a booster at 6 1/2 and the other started using it at six.
