DH is taking a work trip to Orlando at the end of April. I will still be on maternity leave, and DS2 will be 10 weeks. DS1 will be 3.5. I know I'll already be stir crazy by then, but am wondering if it would be worth saving what amounts to about $400-600 (DH's flight, one night hotel, two day car rental, and per diem) to take this trip now. We would probably do 3 days at Disney, give or take. I would prefer but not sure we can afford to stay onsite. FWIW we had thrown out the idea of going this year while DS is old enough to enjoy WDW but young enough to go while school is in session. (I've also been in Orlando in the summer and thought it was as close as you could get to hell without actually dying. ) We nixed that plan once we got pregnant because I am a Fed and have to use leave without pay for at least 20% of my leave. There's a slight chance we could get some family to go on this trip so we'd have help with the baby, but I'm breastfeeding so there's only so much time I can be away from the baby anyway. He's only 2.5 weeks old right now, so no telling if he's going to be an easy baby or not. We have at least managed to get him sleeping in the bassinet for a couple of hours at a time, but would probably just get a king and cosleep on this trip.
FWIW, if you do decide to stay on site, it can be tough to get a King--you'd probably have to get one of the DVC 1 bedroom villas or a large suite in a deluxe hotel. Most Disney standard resort rooms come with 2 Queen beds. Some rooms will have 1 King bed, but then where would your 3 year old sleep? Even if you are ok with all 4 of you staying in one King size bed (and I totally get that! We co-slept too. :) ) Disney has strict policies about the number of people staying in one room/number of beds.
Thanks for the warning. We could do two queens, too, and DH could sleep with the 3YO. I guess I haven't considered that the baby might wake up DS1, though he's a pretty heavy sleeper.
