The current PK4 teacher seems amazing. The k/1 Spanish teacher is great-we have her this year, and our child is learning a lot from that part of her day. The English teacher is impossible to get ahold of, does not give her contact details to parents, and does not participate in parent teacher conferences. She has actually said that all contact should be through the Spanish teacher, which is insane, since she teaches about half the day. Children are afraid of her, And my child reports that she yells a lot in class. We love the Spanish side of the program--caring teachers who go the extra mile. English is uninspiring, to say the least. My child comes home with amazing knowledge from the science teacher, though, and the art teacher is great. They learned about civil rights from the music teacher, who is young and could use some tools to manage more difficult children, but he's obviously teaching the kids (although he does not seem to actually like children). The gym teacher is also great, with lots of creative ideas. The principal is also solid, and knows every kid in the school by name. She is always at the front door greeting kids and parents at drop off. Kids are well behaved. PTA is weak--it's where you really notice the socioeconomic makeup of the school. And there is no beforecare or after school enrichment program. But people are trying. It's an awesome little school, and worth investing in. No school is perfect, but this one is pretty close to the tipping point where everything will really come together.
