Received this email and wanted to share with the rest of the parents in PG: I will be giving the Mensa Admission Test to candidates 14 years or older (teens and adults) Saturday afternoon, February 20, near the Bowie Health Center. It consists of two IQ tests, and you only need to qualify on one of them. The testing fee is $40. Teens younger than 18 need signed parental permission (we have a form I can send you). We also have a Culture Fair Battery of tests designed primarily for candidates whose first language is other than English or who have learning disabilities, but anyone can take it. It is non-verbal, and two of the three tests are untimed. As with the regular test battery, qualifying on any one of these tests gets you into Mensa. I hope to schedule this test battery in March, but I'm not yet sure where. Mensa membership is open to anyone who scores at or above the 98th percentile on a recognized test of general intelligence. In addition to the proctored tests, Mensa excepts evidence of having achieved such a score on one of more than 200 tests (anf will consider others). This also is the only way children younger than 14 can qualify. Go to http://us.mensa.org/ and click on Join. You may purchase a voucher to take the test through the same site. Also, if you want to see whether you or your teen is likely to qualify, there is an online practice test there, as well. Contact me first for a fee waiver for the practice test. We have about 40 activities in the DMV each month and an active gifted youth program. There also are many regional and national events, special interest groups, etc. Please contact me off list to register for the test or if you have any questions. You can reply to sender; email me at my regular email address, davecahn@aol.com (davecahn “at” aol.com); or phone me at 301-627-6126. Dave Cahn Certified Proctor American Mensa, Ltd.
