This activity based workshop will help parents to identify their triggers and teach ways to focus on and find a calm approach to the stresses of parenting. Learn to accept and reflect the situation, use solution focused language and keep the long term goals in mind while working through the daily exchange. [b]Kindergarten Readiness - 2/9[/b] Join us for an in-depth discussion on Kindergarten readiness. For some, the decision to start Kindergarten is a big one. Dr. Rene will fully cover what to consider and the existing research on this decision. This workshop covers ideas from NAEYC, the National PTA and Fairfax County Public Schools regarding Kindergarten readiness. We'll discuss what typical entering Kindergarteners can do and how to best prepare your child. We will discuss many proactive techniques to get ahead of academic issues and help children to take ownership of their progress. This will include a discussion of ways to build academic motivation and the benefits of parent participation. [b]Parenting as a Couple - 2/21[/b] Join Dr. Rene for a workshop on Parenting as a Couple: Finding Common Ground with a Significant Other. This activity based workshop will help participants identify their parenting styles and work to smooth the differences. This will include discussion about the impact of our own childhood, parenting expectations, discipline guidelines and long term goals. Your ticket is for 2 seats. Parents must attend together. [b]1 Day Positive Discipline - 2/27[/b] In this one day workshop "bootcamp", you'll learn how to use techniques to instill positive, healthy behaviors. The Positive Discipline Workshop will help parents learn: •Various ways to approach discipline situations with your child •Methods to help your child express their emotions without "melting down" •Specific language to effectively solve discipline exchanges •The role of choices and consequences in discipline situations •The importance of consistent response from parents •How to defuse potentially difficult situations such as tantrums and power struggles Parents will learn about expected behaviors by age and a wide range of ways to solve common issues.
