We sent our (much) older girls to Camp Rim Rock mentioned above and our 7 yo DD will go for first time this year. The first year camp is just one week long and there is a higher counselor to camper ratio. It is an amazing place. My big girls have friends from all over the world from going there as well as from here! Very well run, was in same family for 50 years though sold to another almost 10 years ago (the original family stayed involved!) so many girls mothers and grandmothers grew up going there. My older girls suggested NOT to pair up with a friend to go as our DD will make great connections and bringing a friend from home even at this young age inhibits a bit. If I hadn't had such great experience w/older ones I might have waited until 8 (she'll be 7.5 in summer) but as I trust and know camp so much it feels good as a rising second grader. My only fear is that she will beg (as the others did!!) to either stay for another week(s) or ask to sign up later in summer but we have such a busy summer there won't be time to do. It is in West Virginia but really less than 30 minutes from Winchester.
