There are lots of kids at TJ who took the kind of prep classes you refer to and lots who did not. Many kids in both groups are successful there. My child knows kids in his class who have been asked to leave and kids who chose to leave on their own. Interestingly, most of the kids my child knows who have left the school went to prep classes when they were in middle school. Some didn't really want to be there in the first place, some were simply in over their heads academically, even with lots of outside help and tutoring. My child and the others we know who did not do prep classes have all done fine. Obviously, these are anecdotal observations. I wish TJ would survey kids on who took prep classes in middle school and who did not and keep track of how many in each group end up leaving the school before graduation. [/quote]
