We did a courtyard view room at the Wilderness Lodge with my two early elementary kids for four nights in October. Very similar to your trip. We did not have a car and just used Disney Transportation, which was fine -- the boat option from Wilderness Lodge is great. We did not do park hoppers. We did not do a park the first afternoon we arrived -- we went over to Fort Wilderness instead, looked at the horses in the stables, and did dinner at the Hoop Dee Doo Revue (which was really fun if you are looking for something special that's not a character dinner). An afternoon at a park would have been doable, though. We did our first full day at Magic Kingdom, then second day at Animal Kingdom (we did do a character dinner at Tusker House) and then back to Magic Kingdom for the last day. We did not do a dining plan and liked the flexibility, although we had booked some meals (Hoop dee Doo, Tusker House, and one dinner at Whispering Canyon at the Wilderness Lodge). It was a wonderful trip -- totally manageable, and I was happy we didn't try to do too much (like park hopping or all four parks). You will have a great time!
This is very helpful! I had actually looked at Tusker House, because my son has a favorite stuffed elephant named Tusker. Thank you!
Tusker House was fun for a character dinner because it's the "classic" characters (Micky, Donald, Daisy, Goofy) -- my kids weren't into princesses or other character meetings, but they liked this. I hope you have a great trip -- we loved the family time and really felt the Disney magic!
