Check out miracles waiting. We donated two embryos that way.
We donated through miracles waiting too. Very good experience.
How much involvement and process is there on the part of the donor?
As much or as little as you want. MW essentially provides a forum in which intended parents can post ads and donors can find them. Some donors post ads, although that is more rare. You sift through the profiles to see who you think might be a good candidate. You contact them / her / him. Once you decide you want to donate to someone, you draw up a contract. It's customary for recipients to pay legal fees. You'll want to think through some things - do you and your SO want to have ongoing contact with the family, do you want no contact, do you want to be available to the child once he/she reaches 18? Will you transfer the embryo to the recipients' clinic, or will they have to go to your clinic? You will most likely have to go through a psych eval - it's just one appointment, and it's to make sure you understand the issues involved in donating. You and your SO may have to have minimal testing done, per FDA regulations. All costs again are typically paid by the recipients.
