So I interviewed at my current company for a position that was lateral, but in a different department. After a couple of weeks of not hearing anything, I was told that the position was no longer going to be filled, but they had decided to fill a position a few grades higher. However, I was also told I was "definitely still being considered" I was also told that as an internal candidate I had a strong chance. That being said, the position would need to be opened up to the general public, etc. I know I could do the job, I know I would be a good fit. But it definitely feels more like the position I had hoped to work towards 3-5 years from now. In my opinion, I am a bit young. I have the academic credentials for the job, but my time in the industry is not as strong. It feels premature and it feels a bit presumptuous to think I stand a chance. Like, I haven't paid my dues. So I am trying to build my confidence on this as much as possible. I mean, if I really wasn't a possibility they would not have encouraged me to apply, right? They could have easily left it at them rewriting the job and me no longer being a candidate.
Sometimes you just gotta fake it till you make it broheim. You certainly won't look out of place in this town. Inflated egos and false senses of importance abound. Trade up and collect the bigger paycheck you're entitled to.
