I agree with 11:48 and 11:53. I've always had dogs but now, for the first time, I have a small dog. It is so sad to see how much the world terrifies that dog and it's the root of a lot of his shit behavior. I feel awful for him and do everything I can to manage his behavior and reduce his fear but, yes, he is sometimes a jackass. Much of this is probably due to his life before we had him (he was found as a stray and was in rough shape). However, if you see us on the street, your first thought is absolutely going to be "shitty little dog" and probably blame me, especially if it's one of the days where he is so scared/freaked out that I have to pick him up and carry him to the park so he can pee. There are days he would prefer to hide inside and hold his pee and poop for hours and hours rather than go outside.
OMG poor little guy! I think people sometimes fail to realize that small dogs need to be properly socialized when they are young too. Taking them to puppy socialization classes when they are little really helps to improve their behavior and confidence level. It's sweet that you are so patient with your little guy. He needs lots of love and TLC to overcome his less than ideal puppyhood....
