Thanks. I went back and watched the BOE meeting. The earlier start date is due to AP and other testing concerns.  The recommendation for waiting until August 2017 for the earlier start date is partly due to having a year without some sort of transition going on. (Basically, this year we have the new bell schedules, so let's have a year off without some sort of change.)

All that being said, MCPS planning staff has to come up with some sort of proposal for the teacher workdays. The 2 options available are to give up one of the first 5 professional days (prior to the school year beginning for students) OR one of the teacher workdays that come after each quarter. Changing any of the latter would require approval from the teachers' union. Any teachers want to comment on this???[/quote]
