I've always liked Paul Ryan and to be honest none of the current candidates really do anything for me let alone being popular enough to to beat Hillary. Listening to an interview with Paul Ryan tonight really made me wish he was running. He's a likable guy that everybody respects, how did we blow it by not having him run?
I know him. He genuinely did not want to be speaker. And while he was willing to run for VP, that scenario didn't have him running for POTUS himself until 2020, when his kids were older. He's flawed as a policymaker. But he is also who he is. He is a bit like Kasich to me -- I wouldn't vote for him and I disagree with most of what he believes in, but I don't fear him in the Oval Office the way I fear some of the other Republican candidates. I'm not a conservative, but I believe he's a good conservative in the sense that he's at least true to his beliefs but is open minded enough to at least listen to other perspectives. And he'll deal -- just ask Patty Murray. So I sort of agree with OP. I wouldn't vote for him, but I think he would be a good choice as the faithful opposition. If that makes sense.
