I've been promoted twice in eight years, so I don't think I have a problem being taken seriously. The key is to make the costume super-subtle and out of normal work clothes. For example, last year my infant was a monkey, so I did a vintage safari/Out of Africa costume: white button down, camel pencil skirt, wide brown belt, knee-high brown boots, a brown silk scarf tied like a cravat, and Kenneth Jay Lane enamel animal bracelet. When I went outside, I wore my brown down vest, and a tan floppy hat to channel a pith helmet. In the office, I just looked like I was wearing a normal business casual outfit. But it made sense when people saw me with my child.[/quote]
