And the first episode was so different from what I was expecting.  Pablo Escobar's truck full of contraband appliances has been stopped by police officers.  He gets out and instead of starting a bloody gunfight starts talking to the officers about how he wants to give them presents for members of their family and he describes all the members of their family.  You watch the shift in expression on the officers' faces as they realize that Escobar knows who they and their families are and can easily kill them all.  They end up letting him go through.

To me the show was like Miami Vice meets The Wire -- as if David Simon, the creator of The Wire, had decided to do a show based on Miami Vice but focusing on the Colombian end of things.  Not everyone is going to like this but if you like The Wire - which can be a difficult show to get into, granted - you might like this.[/quote]
