ASD is a spectrum. In addition, the ADOS has a bunch of subscales, and the total score is less useful (particularly for a child who is right at the cutoff) than the subscale scores. Not saying it is not a helpful instrument, but it is not the gold standard, nor is it a 100% reliable indicator of autism.[/quote]
