Public school students, between the ages of 5 through 21, who live in the District and attend a DC Public School (DCPS) or Public Charter School (PCS) are eligible for the Kids Ride Free on Rail program.[b] Private, parochial, and homeschooled students are not eligible for the program[/b]. Private and parochial school students are eligible to ride buses for free, and can still get heavily discounted passes ($30 for unlimited Metrorail monthly). If a student is still enrolled and school and working toward a diploma at age 19 or 21, I am in favor of letting them use the benefit.

If you think the program should be expanded, talk to the City Council which approved the funds for this program.

The FAQ says the usage of the cards will be audited to detect unusual patterns. That said, my kid travels to school-functions and such on weekends, and will be using his card.[/quote]
