I love this camp - I work part time, and couldn't find any other camp that would allow a partial week. I love the flexibility, the creative atmosphere and unusual activities, the attentive staff, and the fact that they feed the kids. The meals themselves are great - one day is French, one Mexican, one Asian, etc - introduces kids to the idea of trying different things. My younger son (8) used to hate going to camp and he is happy here. The older one (10) doesn't get bored. I love that the kids are not grouped by age, but by interest. My two boys can hang out together, which has made the process of going to a new camp quite easy. The only downside for me is the Capitol Hill location - whew! What a drive!! But the hours are also great - you can drop off and pick up anywhere from 7:30 to 6 pm. My boys are not into sports, but this camp gives them outdoor play options as well as activities ranging from Legos to making short videos to bread making (they love this) or recording music. As I wasn't certain about my work schedule, I bought the summer membership, and since I'm not using up all the days, they are going to refund me any remaining time left - also a great stress relief. This is a camp that started in California and it has that west coast vibe (all good from my perspective). Notably, they say they are flexible and always looking for new locations, so if a few people ask them to do a camp in NW DC next year, it's a possibility. Write to steveandkate@steveandkate.com, address to Meghan Perez. I would love to drive less than this year, though even with the drive, it is worth it to be able to have this kind of flexibility schedule-wise.
