In season sports equipment pretty much never gets put away because it's in use so often. So we finally bit the bullet and designated a corner of our entry way to hold it. Right now, there's a soccer ball and a basketball there, along with 2 sets of cleats and bike helmets. We have a coat rack that we can hang bags on. While bookbags almost never make it to the coat rack, swim bags do. Once school sports start, the kids have bags with their gear in them that live in that entry way corner. It's not pretty, but it works. Making them keep their gear in a bag helped keep it from spilling across the entry way, potentially allows the bag to be hung up on the coat rack, and makes sure the last minute phone calls from school about forgotten cleats almost never happen.

The bane of my existence is lacrosse gear. It is everywhere. The sticks, the helmets. If I ever have this to do again, I'm encouraging my kids to stick with sports that don't have a ton of gear, like soccer.[/quote]
