What experience did your teen put down on his/her first summer job application? What are the retail chains looking for?
It can be tough to break thru the first one. The biggest thing is reliable transportation and that they'll show up on time. If you can highlight grades, clubs, and activities that show your kid isn't going to be late, quit in a month, or skip shifts- that's about it. Also, make sure the handwriting is clearly legible. Take your time filling it out. I told my son (same as my dad told me) that filling out the application is the first duty they give you on the job. If you do a poor job of it- why would they hire you? Just keep spamming the applications until you get hired. Lots of competition- its actually a really good learning experience.
