Your 7th grader is not taking 8th grade hnr algebra - math classes are not by grade, but level. Algebra can be taken whenever a student is ready for it. 7th grader or 10th grade or anywhere in between.
Actually, yes. My 7th grader is taking 8th grade honors algebra. Kid was put into the 8th grade honors class by the counselors.
I know that 7th graders take Honors Algebra, I was pointing out that they don't take 8th grade honors Algebra - it's just Honors Algebra as a 7th grader. Also, the counselor didn't "place" your child in the class, based on your students SOL & Iowa test scores as a 6th grader you were recommended the class. You could have turned it down. you should have gotten you class schedule for next year already, if you don't want your student in the class assigned, you can call over the summer and go down a level. To just Geometry instead of Honors Geometry. Your student still passed the SOLs, just not Pass Advance. Go hang out at the AAP board if you want to share scores.
