Wow; I wouldn't have expected movement in December. Good to know; thanks. Any advice on things you know in hindsight that would prepare a student and has family moving to a charter in Dec?
I have to say that I was very nervous about it, but my child did great--I told her on Friday, "today is your last day at this school; let's make sure to say bye to your teachers and friends. On Monday, you are starting at a new school." I thought it would be hard, but Monday came, and all was fine. I think part of it is that three-year-olds are much more adaptable than I am! We did talk to the teacher at the new school before our child began, and she said she would make sure to help support the transition, especially by doing some of the activities that they typically do at the start of the year--for example, doing the name game at circle time so DD could learn all the other kids' names. She also asked us to email a picture of DD, and she had everything ready for her, including putting her picture on her cubby. She felt very welcomed and has really had no problems since the move. To those wondering why there was waitlist movement in December--it was a PK3 class and one parent decided a few months in that their child was not ready for full-time school. We felt very lucky to get in!
