We tried the McLean School for middle school years but then switched to fCPS with an IEP for high school years. That worked much better.
Can you tell us more? Why didn't McLean work? Or, what is different/better about your public?
It was a conflux of reasons. Mostly cost. By the end of middle school, we had spent $100Ks on special needs schools, shrinks, testers, psychologists, meds, therapy, evaluations. We've spent most of our retirement money trying to meet needs of SN kids. DC wasn't happy. There was too much stress and homework. Some bullying but the school took care of the matter right away. We weren't happy with the then head of the middle school. Also, DC wanted to play a sport and study a subject area at FCPS that was not available at an SN school. The high school at mcLean is small and we thought it better to mainstream DC with an IEP so as to better adjust to college life (YES, before I'm attacked by the McLean people, this was a few years ago - give it a break! and stop atttacking those who are giving honest evaluations or I'm calling Michael Saxenian). A few friends of DC continued on into high school and were in classes as small as two or three but several were very happy with the high school there. For us, it was just time to go and it worked out very well in the end. DC was able to adjust to university life. But I do know parents who continued on in the high school and were very happy.
