I like historical fiction as long as it is reasonably WELL WRITTEN and not overly romance-y, although some is nice :-). Ken Follet's Pillars of the Earth and century trilogy, the first 4 books of the Clan of the Cave Bear series, Kate Mosse, etc.
I like mystery/horror-ish but no zombies or teenage vampires, although I did enjoy The Historian.  Think Dean Koontz and some, only some, Stephen King.  I liked the two Dan Brown books that weren't religious-based.  Whoever writes the Alex Cross novels... I made it through the first 6 pages of one andxwanted to throw up in disgust.  I really love the original Sherlock Holmes story collections.

I like short stories, full length fiction, and very select nonfiction (Jared diamond, Anthony Bourdain, Michael Pollan).
I do not like sci-fi.
Kid-wise, i liked Nutureshock and have "How to talk so kids will listen and blah blah blah" on the list.
I am a big re-reader.
So this is quite the mixed bag... Any suggestions?[/quote]
