I just had a great idea to use the base as a table for my son in his playroom. It is the exact same height as his ikea play table, but a lot cuter. I want to put a tabletop on it that is a lot larger than the original one that came with it (it was only side-table size) so it ends up being maybe 3 feet in diameter.  Balance and stability should be fine.

Any ideas for a durable tabletop material? Marker/crayon cleanup, food, water, chips and dings, etc.  I obviously know that it will get beaten up regardless, but some table top materials won't last a week. Say, if I just painted plywood, it would look terrible very quickly. Marble stains, but is there a sealant I can put on that leads to easier cleanup? Can I get quartz or corian or other countertop materials cut into custom sizes? Marine-quality lacquer? Any other ideas? [/quote]
