We don't really use the downstairs coat closet because it's not near the entrance we use, and putting down baby to deal with shoes, coats, and bundles is way too complicated. Like most people, I'd rather enter my living room and then put down my things and deal with my coat (and everyone else's) - but there's no place to put the coats (the chair is no longer an acceptable place for them to live, I've decided).

There is literally no wall available for a hanging coat rack there are only half walls other than the perimeter and the ones near the living room entrance have only a bathroom door and the thermostat and light switches so they are unavailable. A standing coat rack would be beyond an eyesore since there's no entry way /foyer once you get up the stairs.  I'm considering an ottoman type trunk to keep the main jackets that are being used daily, but is that too "dorm room"?

Where do the coats go? I love the layout of the house and have had no problem with any other types of storage, but this is ridiculous. Help![/quote]
