I would agree that you CAN learn just as much at both schools if that is your focus.  You can be equally as challenged and intellectually intrigued at Landon as at STA.  The difference I think lies in the rest of the students - overall STA boys have higher test scores and academic ability than the overall student body at Landon.  STA is more academically focused.  Its one of the reasons that Landon has better sports teams and athletic success. There is room for both and frankly, I see advantages to the Landon model that STA lacks.

I do think that the standards for admission to STA (grades, SSATs, recommendations) are higher (based solely on anecdotal evidence, admittedly).  Also, I am only addressing the middle and high school years as those are the ones with the more stringent admission requirements.

We know many boys who applied to both schools and none of those boys were admitted to STA but not to Landon.  The opposite however is common, offers of admission to Landon but not to STA.  I do not think that boys who are admitted to both automatically pick STA however.  In many ways Landon's model is a more well rounded approach and its not uncommon for boys to choose Landon.[/quote]
