We only waited 2.5 weeks. Easy pregnancy and relatively easy delivery. For some odd reason I still have not lost my sex drive. DH was glad but I've been shocked. I hear so much about women losing their sex drive during pregnancy and post-birth. I wonder why I haven't.
Perhaps your DH isn't a deadbeat like everyone else's and so you don't wind up hating him and, in turn, finding him physically repellant. In all seriousness, it took my DH like 18 months to really GET IT - like how different things are with a baby, how schedule matters so much to kids, how fun it can be to put down the iPad/remote and actually hang out with our toddler, how no, it does not sound fun to go grab a couple of beers and watch football for 3 hours in a bar (well, it does, but it wouldn't play out that way). That had a huge effect on whether I wanted to have sex with him and not in a good way. But to answer OP's question - six weeks. I had normal tearing and healed just fine. My doc said wait 6 weeks, so I did. It frequently hurt for at least a year after, but I think that was mostly psychological on my part (see above). Congrats on your little one, OP.
