But you do tip wait staff at a restaurant, and maybe leave a tip at a hotel for the cleaning crew.  I don't see it as that different.

I used to have one person who cleaned my house by herself and not part of a business.  In that case, since she was "self-employed", I didn't tip. If I break it down, she was making about $25/hr.  But the people I have now are part of a company, and they are probably getting paid minimum wage, so I do tip a little.[/quote]

I am the PP you responded to and, yes, I tip generously when it comes to servers because that is part of their expected compensation. I don't tip because someone may or may not be making minimum wage. Based on that criteria there would be a lot of people I would need to tip including most cashiers, the people at fast food restaurants, etc.

Like others have said, tipping here is out of control and people almost look for an excuse to tip. It makes no sense but if people want to do it all power to them.[/quote]
