OP, we had MetLife and it was the same--just once a year, but our dentist and his staff were mindful of this and always ask, "it's not covered by your insurance this time, it costs X, do you want to do it or wait?" We no longer have dental insurance and my adult dentist and her hygienists are the same way--ask if I want X-rays, to have the dentist examine me after a routine cleaning, etc. I really appreciate that both offices are so upfront about what services cost.
