I went to Princeton back in the day but it has changed. It now seems to funnel students to Wall St jobs, finance. When I was there, a few students were interested in that sort of thing but I had classmates going into journalism, academia, even -- gasp -- public service. Now things are completely flipped where its the small minority who go for that sort of thing while the majority goes for finance. Princeton may rank #1 but my opinion of the school as an educational institute has gone way down. I'm sure it has everything US News wants -- enormous spending on facilities, students with sky high grades and scores -- but I question what they are actually giving the students. Yes, let's all stand up and applaud for Princeton. But I wouldn't want my children going there.
This tiger has a different perspective. Today, there's a lot more support (through grants, no-loan financial aid, etc.)-and a lot more opportunities for students to pursue careers that are more public-oriented or not so remunerative. I recall students who reluctantly went to Wall St because they had big student loans and were nervous financially rather than following their passion.
