I worked with a legal specialist when leaving a law firm after 4 years. I had ended up at biglaw like a total sheep - just following the crowd out of a top law school - and hated it. She helped me parse what was important to me in a job (there are so many variables - types of work or skills needed, life balance, pay, social interaction, room for personal growth, mobility, etc - no job has it all) and then execute. That was 8 years ago and I have since left the job I took after working with her but I am in a great place thanks to that experience and also far more sensitive to what i want and how to find it in future moves. I do think that if you are a lawyer you have to find someone who works primarily with lawyers and understands what types of jobs are available in the field. Such people do exist.[/quote]
