I'm guessing they will want to meet you in person. In my pre-2010 experience that meant they'd pay all expenses. Today, not so sure. I can only speak to my experience at my current job. My company (large corporation) frequently hires entry-mid-level positions and unless you had a skill set we desperately need would likely say to you something like, "when will you next be in town" to try to avoid paying your travel expenses. We did recently hire two people via phone interviews but one was very junior and the other was an ex-employee wanting to come back, so a known quantity.
Really? I've interviewed at primarily fortune 500 (well maybe more like fortune 100) firms over the past 3-4 years for low and mid level jobs and they all were really solid about flying you out and putting you up in a hotel and per diem (for onsite interviews). The firms i've noticed that had a poor candidate set up were the small to medium sized private consulting shops. And i'm not a CS person either so it isn't like my skillset is one in a million or mission critical.
