I love, absolutely love, Celtic punk bands such as Dropkick Murphys, Flogging Molly, and The Mahones. So, basically, my dream came true when I found out about Smithwick's Sessions -- a series of free Celtic Rock/Punk shows across the country including 12 in DC. Maria and I went to the first one tonight and the band, Hoist the Colors, was great. However, Smithwick's completely dropped the ball regarding promotion. Nobody seemed to know about the show and Maria and me were actually the only ones who went to hear the band (the bar would have been empty were it not for the kickball teams that stopped in). There were no signs or anything advertising the series. So, I am taking things into my own hands in my own limited way. If you are in to this kind of music, or even if you aren't but think you might be, go to: http://www.csmfb.com/smithwickssessions/ And check out the calendar. Among bands that are coming are: Rum Rebellion (playing tomorrow in Georgetown) The Mighty Stef The Riptide Movement Heathers The Mahones Mundy I am not familiar with all of these, but The Mahones are one of my favorite bands and Rum Rebellion is great. Mundy had the number one song in Ireland a few years ago (despite that, I'm not so excited about his shows). So, go, have a beer, some bangers and mash, and catch a great show.
