I am a new parent at BCC. At the new parent orientation the principal thanked the audience (parents) for choosing BCC and said "I know you have choices." I wasn't aware of any choice I have. I thought if you live in the neighborhood zoned for BCC that's where you have to go. Anybody know what "choice" she was referring to? My friend thought she might be referring to private school, but I don't think so. TIA
In last year's orientation, I took it to mean that most of the families who live in the BCC cluster have the resources to be thoughtful about where they send their kids to school. They might be choosing between public or private. They might have thought about school quality when they purchased their house. Even if they didn't think about school quality before they moved into the area, they're in a good enough financial situation that if BCC made their kid miserable they would be able to consider moving. I would consider our family to have "chosen" the BCC cluster. I toured schools, read websites, and asked questions before I signed a lease on my apartment. We aren't wealthy, but we are in a position where there are a number of neighborhoods with apartments we could have afforded. Although school quality wasn't the only factor, it definitely factored into the decision.
