It is true that Mt. Vernon switched to traditional schedule this year, but NOT full dual language, at least not yet.  Incoming K students still have a choice of dual language or English-only.  You will receive confirmation of this if you contact the school or check the PTA web site.

This said, the lower grades skew heavily toward Spanish immersion, due in part to the relatively larger number of Spanish-speaking ESL students, but also because even among non-Spanish speaking families, the majority opt for the dual-language program.  So the number of English-only classrooms is driven by demand.  I believe the current incoming K level will have 7 dual language classes and 1 English-only.  (That's what the PTA reported in June, unless it's changed since then.)  There has been discussion of switching to an all-dual language school, and it may happen in the future, but for the upcoming academic year this is NOT the case.[/quote]
