beautifully said: I believe it my responsibility as a privileged, educated, white, Welsh woman who has rarely felt oppression not only to oppose oppression but also to support oppressed people everywhere and recognize their right to resist occupation. The Palestinians are an oppressed people. Unlike the U.S.-funded Israelis, they are a people without an army, without a navy, without an air force, without free movement within, into and out of their own land. They are often denied access to basic requirements of well-being such as education, employment and medical attention because of their race and religion. While the United States channels roughly $3.1 billion dollars of military aid to Israel every year, the Palestinians get little, though their needs are great. http://america.aljazeera.com/opinions/2014/7/antisemitism-israelpalestineamerica.html
They get money and they use it to build tunnels to attack Israel...
The above claim about the tunnels is a distortion and you know it. If the sole purpose of the tunnels were to attack Israel, why have there not been multiple attacks from them on a daily basis for years ? ( clear, the tunnels were not built this past June). The truth is that the tunnels are primarily used for smuggling goods : food, consumer items, medical supplies and to engage in trade to keep soemthing of an economy going in Gaza under what is a sea and land blockade by Israel. The civilized world knows this. And weapons too There is a blockade for a reason. If Israel didn't have to worry about them smuggling in weapons, there would be no need for a blockade. Of course the Palestinians build tunnels ! The people of the Middle East are traders, have been for THOUSANDS of years, its second nature to them. They will find a way to go on doing business and the Quartary and Saudi's will go on helping them as will Egypt. Trade in that area is millennial old. The Israeli government seems to think they can extinguish an entire people and break their will by killing off many and pulverizing their living quarters. Yet, it is human nature for a living thing to fight back. That is true whether it is a people or a single celled organism. Living things adapt to survive. All Israel has to show for decade after decade of occupation of another people is the very thing they claim to need relief from: the shape and form of their enemy (ironically honed by Israel's own oppression of that very same people)honing them by their own brutality: mass bull dozing of villages, imprisonment and torture, attempts to build a column of " collaborators. So instead of fighting a relatively asecular PLO , Israel is now fighting a militant Islamic group. That is what humans do , they adapt when they are brutalized. fwiw, Israelis seem to have become quite callous and hardened as well though they seem in denial about how the occuppation has corrupted the soul of their country. They cling even more fiercely to righteousness, but the world is starting to turn a deaf ear…. We are sick of it...
