I just adopted a Pomeranian from City Dogs Rescue. My pom of 10 years ( adopted through Pom Rescue) had died about a month ago, from pancreatic cancer. My other dog, a shepherd collie mix had been her best bud the whole time and she was growing visibly depressed. And so was I. So I thought, heck, I love POMS, and this is my 3rd one. I saw her on the rescue site and realized this could be the one. I decided to let the universe decide. We filled out the applicatino and got an immediate response. Within a week, the foster mom was dropping her off. When I had met the foster mom and the pom, foster mom told me she has fostered 20 dogs and that its odd and mysterious in a wonderful way, but "The right family shows up for every dog." We are the ones for her as much as she is the one for us! We have only had her three days and my other dog is back to spending time with us instead of sulking in a corner, and is back to eating again. So much time and effort and money went to save this one little dog, and it reminds us that humans can be good.
Great story and so true. If you ever have one of those Saturday or Sundays days where you feel like the world sucks, just go to a dog (or cat) adoption event and between playing with the animals and seeing the volunteers and adopting families in action you can't help but feel good about people and what they do to help animals. Even if you just need a laugh-go. Some of those dogs are complete clowns trying to win you over. I've had to remind myself that no matter how much I fall in love with that huge, silly, loving, quirky and smiley huge dog, we cannot take him home because we don't have a fenced in yard.
And _I_ have to remind MYself I can only save one dog at a time! ;) :(
